How do we understand
what we don’t experience?
Many of us need a personal reference point to understand all that swirls around us. When we are taught things, we file them according to what we already know. When we hear people’s stories, we process them in relation to our own experiences.
So, as we encounter social concepts like Oppression, Privilege, Justice, and Inclusion, we may struggle to find resonance with how they interplay through identities we don’t hold, perspectives we don’t have, or experiences we can’t comprehend.
Welcome to Inner Equity.
In our time together, we’ll:
Explore three major dimensions of our being–physical, emotional, and social–
to orient us to these voices within our “inner society”;
Bring awareness to our internal power dynamics present within,
between, and among these three “inner communities”; and,
Discover ways we can practice healthier relationship and heartful collaboration with
our neglected, devalued, and targeted dimensions to cultivate a more equitable self.
Your Guide for the Day
Spelled M-i-i-K; pronounced “Mike”; creates feedback like a “mic”…
Yes, there’s a story there, and Miik is open to sharing it, and does so often in groups. As a matter of fact, Miik is mighty open overall–with his beautiful, his ugly, his smooth, his raggedy, his raw, his purified, his mess, and his immaculate.
A learning facilitator by trade, experiential educator by desire, and lifelong learner by inheritance— Miik is an initiator and instigator of adventurous, creative experiences. For almost two decades, Miik has led group learning, spanning children to adults, homeless to affluent, developmentally typical to developmentally challenged. With all, he intuitively cultivates an inclusive relationship context.
In a society that is becoming more and more zeroes and ones, he’s naught-y, fractional, and as creatively infinite as a fractal. Miik revels in living the spectrum of being a juxtaposed contradiction and everything in-between. He takes the high road, the low road, and moseys in the middle ground.
With an openness to continuous learning and deep connection, Miik creates a connective tidal wave in everything he touches, activating a magical dimension of curiosity, playfulness and evolution. A force of nature; even without name tags, you’d be able to identify Miik by his infinite energy within five minutes of playing together.
Welcome to Our Fave Place to Hang
This workshop is held at our SODO (South of Downtown) Seattle location, affectionately known as Souldust Studio. We are a hop, skip & a jump from CenturyLink Field, easily accessible from the Link light rail Stadium Station. There is plenty of nearby parking (we try to avoid game days). Address and details on how to get to the Studio will be provided upon registration.
Workshop begins at 1:00 PM and ends around 4:00 PM. We ask everyone to arrive 10 minutes before a workshop start time, so that we can all begin promptly together.
Accessibility. We are in one of the older buildings in the city, and thus are a third floor walk-up. There is an old-school freight elevator available as needed. There are entrances to the building that have no stairs/steps.
